New Zealand - South Island

If you read though a number of our trips, you all already know I'm not particularly knowledgeable.  This is in my favor - I'm constantly learning and ever surprised.  For example:

Didn't know New Zealand was in two parts -a North and a South island! 

So, I get to demonstrate my ignorance twice - once South, once north.

I'm going to allow the pictures to form the narrative as we go long.  However, I liked the south island best - it was more open, wilder, more forests, rivers and mountains.  The North was warmer and much more civilized to my eye - cities rather than towns, highways rather than roads, houses rather than sheep.

Having said that, I loved New Zealand as a whole and would love to go back to both islands for an extended visit.
